Kriya – Whether you’re a seasoned yogi looking to work out your muscles, or an adventure-seeking beginner looking to learn how to do yoga, there are a variety of workout routines available for you. A lot has changed in the world of physical fitness in just a few short years. In 2008, we saw the release of the movie ‘The Switch’ which detailed what it was like to be a parent who struggled with their weight and their fitness levels. The movie made us all want to take up yoga and it motivated us all to get fit by the end of our children’s nursery school year. When you think about it, our culture has come a long way when it comes to getting fit and healthy. With so many people now aware that being overweight or too thin can affect our self-esteem and make us feel uncomfortable in our skin, it’s no wonder so many people are working towards becoming more active. Yoga has grown in popularity over the past few decades as an effective way for everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners to get into shape. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the best Kriya Yoga Workouts for getting fit and looking great!
Kriya yoga is a type of asana that is meant to help one relax and achieve a sense of calmness. Asanas like forward bending, backward bending, seated postures, and warrior I am often used to help practitioners achieve this. Practitioners believe that the body functions on two levels, mental and physical. The mental level is what we refer to as our conscious mind while the physical level is what we refer to as our body. When one practices kriya yoga, one is meant to use their mental faculties to interact with their physical body. By gently and peacefully bringing your mind back to the physical level, you can help restore your health and calmness.
One of the oldest traditions of yoga, the Kadampa tradition of kriya yoga was founded by Gautama Buddha himself. The Kadampa Tradition of yoga is also known for its meditative aspects and focuses more on the mental aspect of yoga. Like all other yogic traditions, the Kadampa one also has workout routines to help practitioners get fit and look great. The routine in the book ‘The Kadampa Yoga Workout’ is meant to be followed for 6 weeks and helps practitioners strengthen their abdominal muscles, build muscle tone, and tone their digestion.
Pranayama also referred to as breathing exercises, is what helps yogis learn to control their breathing so they can exercise without producing too much heat build-up in their bodies. There are many different types of breathing exercises, but the ones shown here are meant to be done for a short period (about 3 minutes) three times a day. While you can do these exercises for longer periods, performing them for 3 minutes each helps prevent cramps and spasms that can occur in your digestive system. Remember, don’t overdo it! As you become more experienced, you’ll notice that your body reacts to different exercises in different ways.
The Hatha yogic breathing workout is meant to be done 3 times a day, with one 15-30 second inhale and one 30-60 second exhale, for a total of 6 minutes. This routine is meant to help release toxins and increase blood flow, resulting in increased energy and better health! The breathing technique used in this workout is slow and steady, which is helpful when you’re trying to get fit and look great! There are many different ways to do this workout, but when you’re just getting started, you can simply lie down on your stomach with your eyes shut and your mouth shut. When you’re able to control your breathing better, you can open your eyes and bend your knees so you can sit up straight and balance yourself with your feet on the floor.
This workout is meant to be done for 8 minutes straight, with one 30-60 second inhale and one 60-90 second exhale. Inhaling for 3 seconds and exhaling for 3 seconds is great for balancing your mind and your body. You can also perform this workout while lying on your back, or you can do it in a standing position with your feet together.
As you can see, there are a variety of workout routines available for you to choose from when it comes to Kriya Yoga. With so many options, it can be hard to know which one to try out first. The best way to figure out which workout is right for you is to ask an expert. The experts at Wellbodyfx.com can help predict your fitness level and show you the right workout for you. With a variety of routines to choose from, the right one will likely be easy for you to work into your schedule and fit into your busy life.
